What we do

If you live in the Sheffield area and are busy working long hours or shift work, or maybe your circumstances or ill health mean that you are unable to give your much loved dog the amount of exercise they need, then perhaps we can help!

We can come to your home and take your dog out for a walk, or maybe just give him/her company for a while, provide fresh water, let them out to toilet, administer medication if necessary and of course give them lots of love and fuss!

We can also take care of your cats and other small pets while you are away or on holiday. We will call in and feed them, provide fresh water, a clean litter tray and give them fuss and attention.

As these services involve us entering your home please rest assured that we are fully police checked and the founder of Canine To 5 has worked in a position of trust in the financial industry for over 19 years. We also hold full Public Liability Insurance.

All services include a free initial consultation, where we meet face to face, discuss all of your requirements and learn more about your pet/s. It gives you the opportunity to get to know us and ask any questions you may have. If you are happy, all the relevant paperwork can be filled in and dates/ time agreed. Every effort is made to maintain your pet/s happiness and wellbeing while in our care at all times.

Solo Walks

Dogs can be walked on a one-to-one basis, or on a group walk. Our dog walking service is tailored to your requirements. We will, if requested, refresh your dog’s water on our return, give your dog a treat, towel dry when wet, wipe his/her paws, feed, or anything else your dog requires. We are happy to practice any on-going training with your dog on the walk.

Group Walks

Group walks are especially good for socialization and allows for more interaction with other dogs. All dogs will be walked on lead initially. However, once we feel we have built up a sufficient relationship with your dog and feel it is appropriate, we will be happy to walk your dog(s) off lead should you wish.

If you choose a group walk we try very hard to match personalities in each doggie group and once the group is put together, it is constantly assessed.

Long-lead walks /
Basic Recall Training

If your dog has not been let off the lead before, or is new to the area we will assess him/her and, with your permission, try them on a long 10-metre lead. This way we can gradually build up their recall skills while having the security of being able to get them back. Our aim with every dog is that they become able to play and roam free while they are with us (so they really benefit from the exercise and enjoyment that our walks provide) and return to us when they are called.

Puppy Pop-ins

We offer daily visits to provide your puppy with their undivided care and attention for a minimum of 30 minutes per visit. In this time we can feed, play and keep your puppy company indoors or once your puppy has had their injections, take him or her outdoors for short walks.

About Us

Canine to 5 all started with Joanne. She worked in the financial industry for over 19 years but over the last 12 years has got more and more involved in dog training. She loves training dogs. Being the proud owner of Bull terriers it was essential that she gave them basic training skills.

Joanne owes it all to her first Bull Terrier Daisy. It made her realise that she wanted to give up the city 9-5 and work with dogs on a daily basis. Joanne also currently runs dog training and agility classes 3 nights a week with Sheffield Dog Training.

In 2015 she studied at International Animal Behaviour Training Centre and successfully passed the Instructing Pet Dog Owners Assistant Instructor course which is part of the KCAI Kennel Club Accreditation Scheme.

We have pulled together a selection of our most frequently asked questions so that you don’t need to.

It is very important to us that any new dogs get on with the existing dogs that we walk. This is only fair to our current dogs and also to any potential new dogs that we may take on. We group our dogs accordingly and it wouldn’t be right to upset that balance. Some of the best behaved, well trained dogs can behave differently within a small group and therefore we have to assess every dog before taking them on.
We all know how difficult it can be getting around Sheffield and the traffic can vary hugely from one day to the next. This makes it very difficult to commit to a specific time.  We also like to group our dogs accordingly so depending on who we have that particular day, your dog may go out on either the first or second walk. If you require your dog to be walked outside of these hours, please email us with your specific requirements.
We walk a maximum of five dogs per walk per person.
Dogs can be walked either on or off the lead at the owner’s written request.
Unfortunately we do not currently offer daycare although this is something that we may offer in the future.
I am fully insured with public liability insurance and also insured to look after keys.
We have had a full Criminal Record Check which is available to view on request.
Please contact us via phone or email giving 24 hours’ notice otherwise the full fee will be due.
